New-Age Disruptors Shaping the Next-Generation Healthcare Landscape

Healthcare is a domain where diverse stakeholders with conflicting priorities interact while trying to keep the patients at the center of the ecosystem.

Healthcare and technology have never been more intertwined than they are today. Digital disruptions along with technology fueled by value, trust, and scale will transform the prevailing healthcare paradigm and shape the next-gen future healthcare systems. This technology-driven democratization is the need of the hour, and the healthcare ecosystem needs to be flexible, agile, and lean to focus on delivering value.

To achieve this ideal healthcare ecosystem, academia and Industries need to co-innovate, co-incubate & co-develop innovations and technologies to reach the market faster and deliver better care. One such pinnacle story is the Johns Hopkins University and Bosch collaboration spanning over a decade.

As a global multinational organization that focuses on solutions ‘Invented for Life’, Bosch set out to develop innovative solutions targeting anemia. And finally, the search came to an end when our paths crossed with Johns Hopkins University affiliates in West Bengal.

This was just the beginning of a prosperous journey. The JHU prototype for non-invasive anemia screening was licensed by Bosch and two publications were co-authored. The prototype was then value-engineered for the Bottom of Pyramid with the amalgamation of spectroscopy, edge computing & Machine Learning to create a market-ready product popularly known as “VIVARAY” today.

Vivaray is a non-invasive anemia screening device that is portable, compact, easy-to-use, and prick-free. With 25+ global patents and three publications in international journals of repute, it takes a pragmatic middle-path approach to estimate hemoglobin value.

On 30th Nov 2022, Guruprasad S. Vice President & Global Director (Healthcare and Data Science) was invited to Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA to throw some light on new-age disruptors in the healthcare domain and how academia-industry collaborations can do wonders.

The audience was amazed to witness the prototype being modeled into a final product. The students were inquisitive and inspired to take up challenges and create innovations that can benefit humankind.
