06/06/2017

  • Public Private Partnership(PPP) Model for creating self-sustaining, and scalable projects around lakes
  • A CSR initiative in partnership with Karnataka Forest Department (KFD) and Regreen Ventures Pvt Ltd

Bengaluru, June 6, 2017: The Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions (RBEI) project for garden litter composting by the lake shore was inaugurated today at Madiwala Lake. Sri K Devadas, Corporator, BTM Ward no 176, Sri K S Sugara, IFS, PCFF – Head of Forest Force, Govt. of Karnataka and Mr R K Shenoy, Senior Vice President, Robert Bosch declared the facility open.

This environmental initiative from Bosch is in partnership with the Karnataka Forest Department and Regreen Ventures Pvt Ltd. It falls under the purview of the Forest Department, who is the primary stakeholder for a larger initiative of making Madiwala Lake a Biodiversity Park. Being RBEI’s first Public Private Partnership project, it is noteworthy that this CSR initiative is a self-sustaining model for lake maintenance, and citizen benefit.

Speaking on the occasion, R K Shenoy, Senior Vice President, RBEI, said, “We believe that such development projects play an important role in urban development and also align with GOI’s Swachh Bharat campaign. We hope this replicable model for decentralized waste management will pave the way for others to join us in the rejuvenation of Madiwala Lake.”

The event was also attended by:

  • Saswati Mishra, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Bangalore Circle
  • Dipika Bajpai, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Bengaluru Urban
  • Anur Reddy, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Wildlife

Handled at source: The project handles waste at source itself. Leaf waste generated on the foreshore of the lake is mulched, composted, and disposed on the foreshore of the lake; the compost is distributed to citizens. About four people will be engaged initially to look into everyday activities such as collection of leaves, functioning of the composting unit, sale of the compost etc. In the long run, with expansion, this will lead to a self-sustaining model that can be replicated with ease. Bosch intends to support more such projects going forward, depending on the outcome of this project.
