Our Genesis Remote Sensing Satellite Solution provides a bird-eye view into farming operations. Using satellite microwave remote sensing, which can penetrate through clouds, Genesis generates high-impact studies within the agriculture sector. Combined with precision on-ground sensors and calibration processes, the solution provides data on crop coverage and schedule, soil moisture and temperature and water stress levels and can be used to monitor drought as well as undertake yield predictions.

Palm Plantation Monitoring & Management

Leveraging our Genesis remote sensing satellite solution and on-ground terrestrial data, we monitored and managed an area of 18.3Ha of flat terrain consisting of 1,840 palm trees. Using geo-codes, we determined factors such as type & variety, yield information, age & maturity of plantation, tree planting dates and expected harvest dates. We also monitored water stress levels and soil temperature and undertook deforestation surveillance and tracking through detailed satellite views of the canopy coverage area. This precision monitoring improved yield and productivity levels, reduced water and heat stresses and led to more efficient field staff resourcing.

Decision Support Platform – Sugarcane Monitoring & Management

The platform was created to assist sugar mills and factories to reduce delays in harvesting, transportation and crushing as well as to maximize sugar recovery by lowering operational costs. Our ICT-enabled decision-making solution helped improve coordination and logistics between sugarcane sector players during the harvesting season. Leveraging LoRaWAN technology, we designed a wireless sensor network across the farm’s plots to monitor and track real-time soil moisture data. We produced a standing crop yield and harvesting priority map whereby sugarcane maturity levels could be determined. This information was available to farmers and providers via the ‘Farmer Enrollment’ app, which digitized and geo-coded farm locations for remote monitoring. This helped empower on-field staff, enable better harvest planning and gain insights into sugarcane yields and production. It also provided operational transparency across the entire value chain.
